Leaving Guilaumes France toward Peon/Valberg, D29 rising up the mountain river, Valberg-14 kilometers. Nothing like finishing off a day of blood warming beauty with going uphill. I was nearing Peon and I heard a rumbling engine behind me coming up slowly. I kept on in my gears 1-2 with wandering eyes forward through the forest mountain landscape. Huh? That engine was rambling slow, maybe it was a semi? Let me take a look. Big blue tractor pulling a load of sheep poop. What was I thinking when I though semi? This is France.
He passed me not going much faster and I casually reached out, wanting to skitch a ride up this mountain. Sometimes you just throw a hand toward something moving faster because a little help is wanted. Wouldn’t ya know it, the farmer in his blue/grey flannel thought to catch a glimpse of me struggling up the mountain. He say me reach for the trailer and I looked up and saw him see me. He gave me the thumbs up and slowed down to let me grab hold onto the gate of the poop trailer. WHOA! FREE KILOMETERS?!?!
My smile was that of a happy puppy finding magic in the world. I just wanted to play and laugh and roll in some poop… The farmer pulled me, with a straining left arm, 2 or more kilometers to Peon where he made his left turn and I continued straight. We shared a pair of thumbs up, both with eyes alight with the humors of life. My legs and my humor thank you!
A shout out to Claude who owns Las Lavandes in Castellane, France. A campground where he hosts warmshowers guests. The 2 nights were needed and I left feeling rejuevinated. Keep that guest book growing, as it seems to have some good stories!
Peace, love, and fart breath. Share, make s’mores, comment, and spend a night under the stars. Thanks for reading!
